Tower Houses and Castles of the Basque Country - a guide by sharon (dom, 07 mar 2010)
Take a step back in time, to medieval times when the Basque Country was split into small territories overseen by feudal lords, forever fighting amongst themselves in a series of conflicts which became known as the guerras banderizas. Many defensive constructions from these days still stand, as a testimony to these troubled times. A work in progress, I'll add more as I visit them... - sharon Torre de Oxirando Casa-Torre Galartza Castillo de Butron Casa-Torre de Mendoza Torre Luzea Torre de Muntsaratz Casa-Torre Otalora Guevara Casa Torre Peñacerrada Castillo de Arteaga Locations: Europe - Spain - Basque Country

If you're into hiking and mountain climbing the mountainous region of Basque Country in the north of Spain provides a wealth of opportunities. Here are some of my favourite places.
